In early 2020, the town of Grand Marais, like many other places around the world, was forced to close its doors due to the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic. This included shutting down non-essential businesses, canceling events and gatherings, and implementing strict social distancing measures in order to slow the spread of the virus. The closure of the town had a significant impact on the local economy, as many small businesses were forced to close temporarily, and residents were advised to stay home as much as possible. Despite the challenges, most of the town of Grand Marais worked to come together and support one another during this difficult time.
This is a collection of images of the doors, the signs on those doors of the various businesses in Grand Marais, window reflections, and various scenes. It's from early in the pandemic when people were still asked to stay home and the town was closed. It is different than my other photos and unusual. It's a moment in time, a moment of trauma, a moment of signs speaking words to the few visitors coming to businesses. It was lonely. These are the photos that I took to seemed to me to capture the moment in time. If you just want my landscape work, do not buy this eBook.
